How OSI Group Leads Food-Industry In Environmental Management


On November 25th, 2016, the British Safety Council awarded OSI Group a coveted Globe of Honour: an award for exhibiting outstanding competence in environmental management.

In order to reach a higher sustainability, OSI Group places environmental protection as an equal priority to health and safety. OSI Industries plants are dedicated to green efficiency, regularly partaking in energy conservation audits. OSI Europe annually celebrates the United Nations’ World Environment Day (WED), by actively raising awareness. Employees demonstrate presentations and distribute leaflets during the celebration’s parades and street-rallies all around the world. An employees’ photo competition was promoted within OSI UK, in honor of WED 2016. In fact, many of OSI Group’s World Environment Day initiatives are aimed to educate children on important environmental topics; in OSI Poland, kids built and decorated breeding boxes for birds.

How Nestle Purina Came to Be


Pet care is an essential aspect that all pet owners must take into account. Many pet-related companies have been instrumental in assuring proper pet care, one of those companies being Nestle Purina PetCare.

Purina PetCare, which is a subsidiary company of Nestle, is a pet company that caters towards creating and selling pet food and treats as seen on Purina news. Purina PetCare first came into being back in December of 2001, after a merger between Ralston Purina and Friskies Petcare Company in a $10.3 billion deal. Ralston originally started as a business for feeding horses but eventually shifted its focus to Dog and Cat Chow products. Once the Federal Trade Commission approved of the merger, the company gained its roots and started to base its operations in St. Louis, Missouri.

After Nestle Purina PetCare had come into existence, the company’s first move was to cut back on manufacturing dry dog food and moved it towards newer facilities. By 2003, Purina PetCare had started making other moves, such as forming a partnership with the Canine Health Foundation in an effort to boost veterinary research in dogs. Combined with this, extra marketing practices and donating to pet shelters, Purina was able to increase its yearly revenues so much that by 2006 it ended up being the largest share-market holder in the pet business. Some of the product brands that are offered by Purina include ALPO, Friskies, Beneful, Fancy Feast and Tidy Cats. By 2009 Purina had evolved to become a very fast-growing division of Nestle, mainly because of the marketing ads geared heavily towards consumers who didn’t mind spending extra money on good pet care. In that same year, the company had also begun marketing pet litter products to consumers, in addition to food and treats. With the new product available, Purina had now also begun opening new facilities in other countries, such as in Russia and Thailand. Other Purina facilities have opened in Australia and parts of Europe as well.

Purina PetCare has been recognized in many ways for its endless work and dedication to pet care and health. Although Purina has seen a fair share of competition from rival company Mars, it became the largest pet food developer in the United States. By 2010, the company had received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which is an award meant to recognize businesses who excel in having a good departmental organization process and make strides to increase awareness of their business.

From Food To Fuel

There’s a few causes in this world that people truly get passionate about. Two of those come to my mind almost instantly as stated. The first one is pollution. People are constantly upset and protesting how bad our earth, air, and water have gotten. They blame a whole array of problems from cars and planes that emit fumes, to a variety of other sources. Another problem that people have with the world is how wasteful we are of food when there are people out there that are starving. Well now two problems that you think wouldn’t have anything in common seem to have a common connection.

According to GrubStreet, United Airlines has created a way to turn food waste into fuel. They will be creating biofuel that is made out of a few different things including table scraps! It’s an interesting concept, and one that’s out of the box. It will of course have to undergo lots of testing first to ensure that it is safe. The fact that fuel is made from table scraps is bound to make a lot of people nervous. But, hey. If it works, it works and it’s kind of a nifty idea. It’s going to seriously help decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

If something works, its better than the environment, and it’s cheaper than shouldn’t we all encourage it’s growth and success? Too long have people gotten behind ideas that weren’t good for everyone. This may be one idea that is.

Pastry Shop Serving Cronuts Opens its Doors in Tokyo


Last year the cronut took Manhattan by storm, now the Japanese have gotten in on the trend. The bakery opened yesterday in Tokyo, amid much fanfare.

The cronut was developed by pastry master Dominique Ansel, and became all the rage in his New York City bakery. People lined up for hours prior to the opening of the shop to score a cronut, and they were limited to just two per person.

According to local reports, Dominique Ansel rented out a parking lot to contain the crowds that formed the night before the bakeries big opening. Break dancer and other forms of entertainment were also on scene.

Ansel is a famed pastry chef, known for his whimsical and unique creations. He is a native of France, but spent several years in New York, working in some of the most renowned kitchens. His bakery endeavors have proved to be fruitful, as well. The award-winning chef is now proud to be sharing his creations with Tokyo, and it is likely just the first stop on his international bakery journey.

According to the Wallstreet Journal Tokyo culture borrows a great deal of pop culture from New York, and vice versa. It only makes sense that the next pop-up cronut shop would land in Tokyo, after all.

A Slightly Smaller Mac: McDonald’s Will Cut Back On Restaurant Locations


The hamburger franchise restaurant is an American icon, so plentiful that it seems you can’t drive more than a few miles in any direction in the United States without encountering the famous golden arches. But this year, McDonald’s restaurants will be cutting back on locations, closing more restaurants than they open. The iconic fast food chain is so entrenched in American culture, one couldn’t imagine the news any more startling were it to be announced that the Superbowl was canceled.

Nor is there any trick to the explanation of this thinning of locations – they really are getting less business stated their Facebook page. McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook makes it clear that the company will be trimming the fat from its locations, removing the under-performers, and also slimming down on staff to remove layers of executive bureaucracy. What’s keeping them down? Plain old competition, changing tastes in the average American lunch-goer, and greater awareness of healthy alternatives are some of the cited reasons. In other words, Americans may finally be getting tired of hamburgers and french fries.

Meanwhile, other restaurant chains will no doubt be eager to fill the vacuum. At the time that McDonald’s started up, just serving consistent hamburgers was in itself an innovation. Improved food service technology and broad cultural diversity in the U.S. has opened up many alternatives, from burritos to salads to deep-fried mushrooms and zucchini. When anything from a yogurt smoothie to a pepperoni pizza can now be served up as fast and conveniently as a hamburger, why stick to hamburgers?

Kevin Bacon’s UK Selfie


Kevin Bacon has recently posted a selfie on Twitter and Instagram captioned “Greetings from the UK!” The pic has his fans super worried: it shows him noticeably much, much chubbier in the face. It is particularly mysterious considering the fact that he was publicly seen just weeks ago with his normal slim and trim figure.


Many speculate that in the picture he is wearing some sort of prosthetics for a new show, movie, or commercial. The last seems pretty likely; the actor has recently been starring in a number of commercials for a mobile network operator in which he has transformed his appearance in various ways. Then again, some have hypothesized other explanations: some say it’s a British look-alike others that it’s the result of an allergic reaction. At Amen Clinics, they can’t decide. There is seemingly few people who know for sure. The actor himself has remained mum on the subject.

Restaurant That Serves… Cocaine?


What do you think of a restaurant that serves cocaine? Do you think that it shouldn’t even be considered to be a restaurant at all, or are you in support of it? Do you think that the place should be shut down or would you go there yourself?
Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to this sort of thing, of course, but it i something to think about. Drugs can be harmful to the user and to others and if we allow someone to serve them in their restaurant, is this going to make them even more popular? Are people going to start using more likely because a famous chef thinks that using cocaine is okay?
There are a lot of things to consider. It would be interesting to have guests of the restaurants examined at one of psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Amen’s renowned clinics If you knew that one of your friends was going to this restaurant, what would you opinion be of them? And, would you tag along?

Chipotle Delivery


We’ve all been there before. We’re starving, and too lazy to do anything about it. So, we sit on our couch and we search online, and we search our phone books, and we ask our friends – “What should I eat?!” In the end, the options end up being very limited. There’s pizza, chinese, or chicken. All things that you’ve probably ordered a million times before. Well, rejoice people! There’s a new option on the table.

According to Grub Street the restaurant “Chipotle” has started delivering in 67 cities. Those of us not in those cities, are probably wishing we were in them, and excited for the idea that maybe one day it will come here. But, we’ve been missing out – those lucky suckers in 67 cities have been eating Chipotle from the comfort of their own homes.

Chipotle has been using Postmates deliver service which is the same one that Starbucks uses. Chipotle has new and exciting plans on the way as well. Soon owners of the Apple Watch will be able to order and pay for their Chipotle from almost anywhere, as well as eat it almost anywhere!

So congratulations to those who get to max on their burritos from wherever they are, while the rest of us have to drive to a store. Here at AnastasiaDate ( are hoping one day soon Chipotle comes to us. The world needs more fast food delivery services, so kudos to Chipotle for making it happen!

What’s in Your Milk? May Be Illegal Antibiotics


The FDA has recently discovered a few dairy farmers are giving their milk cows antibiotics that were never intended to be given to cows.

Farmers are allowed to give their diary cattle antibiotics when the need arises. They are also required to put the milk from those cows on hold so that it does get to market during the time the cow is taking antibiotics. Milk shipments are regularly tested for six commonly given bovine antibiotics. Gianfrancesco Genoso pointed out that if traces of those antibiotics show up in the milk during testing, the milk is pulled and never makes it to your grocers shelf.

The FDA discovered some dairy farmers hae been giving their cows antibiotics that are not intended for bovines and which do not show up in the standard milk testing. The kicker to discovering the un-approved antibiotics in the milk is that the FDA can’t do anything about it. They don’t know which dairy farmers are the guilty ones.

Samples of milk were taken as part of a study and were all taken anonymously. Currently, the FDA has no way of knowing which dairy farmers are giving their cows un-approved antibiotics and which ones are not. You may be getting a little more than you bargained for in your glass of milk today.

Unhealthy Health Foods


When people eat so-called “health” foods like dried fruits and banana chips, nut butters, granola, tuna, energy bars and smoothies, they believe they are consuming healthy foods. Flavio Maluf says on Blogspot that the truth is that many people are consuming too much saturated fat, sugar and carbs when they eat these types of foods.

Some foods like dried fruits, granola, nut butters and premade beverages often contain added sugar. Banana chips and nut butters often also have a lot of saturated fat. Worse yet, some foods like tuna, contain toxic mercury.

The best way to enjoy these foods is to make them at home. For example, dry fruits and banana chips in a dehydrator and make nut butter with low saturated fat oils. Smoothies do not need extra sugar to be sweet, but sugars like agave and stevia can provide the “sweet” taste without causing harm. Additionally, a balanced mix of dried fruit and grains in loose and bar-form granola can keep sugar and carb levels low. Lastly, eating less tuna and only the kind purchased in a store rather than at a Japanese sushi restaurant can help lower mercury exposure.

Of course, any food, even ones that contain saturated fats, sugar and a lot of carbs, can be eaten. The key is”moderation” and a schedule in which a person cycles through different types of foods each day rather than consuming the same type all of the time.
